Heritage Speakers Track
Heritage Russian for children who speak Russian at home but do not yet read and write it — reading, writing, grammar, and confident speech, in age-band groups.
Many Orange County families speak Russian at home. Heritage classes start from what the child already has — listening and speaking — and build the parts home life rarely teaches: reading fluently, writing with correct spelling, grammar that matches the ear, and the vocabulary of school subjects rather than the kitchen.
Groups are formed by age band, and the placement chat looks at reading and writing rather than conversation. Older heritage students can move into Russian 2 or 3 for high-school credit.
Cultural content is language, children’s literature, folk arts, food, and music — strictly secular and apolitical.
