About Milata LLC
An independent, secular Russian-language school for children, based in Irvine, California — our story and our method.
Our story
Milata LLC is a small, independent Russian-language school for children, founded in Irvine, California. We teach live online, in groups small enough that every child speaks in every lesson, and we write the progress reports that charter-school teachers need to file. A family can enroll and pay us directly; we also work with California charter schools, so families who have instructional funds can spend them on Russian instead of paying out of pocket.
Who we serve
Russian for any child — complete beginners who have never seen Cyrillic, and children who already speak Russian at home.
A learning center for homeschooling student-athletes: lessons scheduled around training and competitions.
A center for preserving the Russian language in the family — reading, writing, and confident speech.
Our method
- Sound first. Children learn the Cyrillic alphabet as sounds attached to words they can picture — the letter cards on our home page are lesson one.
- Speak in every session. Small groups and a turn-taking routine mean nobody hides for a semester.
- Reading and writing early. Heritage children in particular arrive fluent and illiterate; we fix that gently and quickly.
- Standards you can file. Every class is mapped to the California World Languages Standards and to ACTFL Can-Do statements, and every learning period ends with a written report.
- Secular and open. Milata LLC is an independent, secular education provider. All classes and materials are non-sectarian and contain no religious instruction. Every class is open to every student — no auditions, tryouts, or entrance testing.
Child safety
Every instructor is DOJ LiveScan-cleared under each school’s ORI, and completes California mandated-reporter training, before any contact with a student — and repeats that training every year. See our instructors for each teacher’s credentials, and their clearances as they are completed. Sessions are recorded for the enrolled family, private one-to-one messaging with children is not permitted, and parents are welcome to sit in. The full rules are in our Child Safety & Online Classroom Policy.
